We made cinnamon rolls and Kolaches for the kids on weekends when they were growing up. Now they ask for them when they come home for visits. Already had an old family recipe. Bought this because we were interested in the gluten free recipes. 92 pages. It's a specialized cook book for different varieties of cinnamon rolls. When we make cinnamon rolls, we turn half the dough into Bohemian Kolaches (which are not cinnamon rolls so they weren't covered). But they both have the same icing, just different fillings. For Kolaches, divide the dough into small round dough balls and place on greased baking pan 2 inches apart - cover and let rise 10 mins. Then punch down the hole in the middle and place the fruit filling into the hole. Same cooking time as the cinnamon roll.

The cover of this little book really inspired me to try my hand at making cinnamon rolls. The pictures are all you will need to make that happy journey into cinnamon roll heaven. The pictures are wonderful as one can see from the cover. I can almost taste them. If baking wonderful things for yourself or others (like a good neighbor) give this book top priority on your list of new things to enjoy. I bet you will have more people coming to your house to have coffee or tea than you ever knew you had. Don't be surprised if the postman, too, rings twice when he smells the rolls wafting from your kitchen window.

I can't bake, but I love cinnamon rolls, and so does one of my kids--luckily the one who CAN bake--so I got us (meaning her) this book. She made one of the recipes with a yeast dough--something she hasn't got a lot of experience with--and they turned out wonderfully.So we'll be making those again, and as many of the rest as we can eat.

This is a great book. The rolls tasted great and were easy to make! I loved reading the recipes and cannot wait to make the next batch!

Family enjoys cinnamon rolls so I had to order this book. So far I have made several cinnamon rolls and they have turned out perfectly moist and fragrant . The pear rolls and the cinnamon rolls were very good. Trying next - the orange ones. Good variety of recipes. No guess work here. So please I ordered it.

I was disappointed in the book for four reasons:1. The first recipe "easy cinnamon roll dough" used a package of "hot roll mix", which I had never heard of. After tracking it down the "hot roll mix" cost $3.00 for 16 oz. of flour and a few other ingredients, which made 12 rolls per the package's directions. So it was $3.00 plus, for each additional 12 cinnamon rolls.2. This "easy cinnamon roll dough" recipe was referenced as a starting point for over half the following recipes in the book.3. Most of the recipes referenced "Procure with a cinnamon roll recipe" which I could never find (which recipe, where?).4. There was a lot of referencing to other pages throughout the book, so you were always flipping from one page to another.Sorry no winner here. The pictures were good.

I like digging up new recipes for these staid breakfast treats so this is a fun read.

This book is filled with quite a few delicious recipes for cinnamon rolls. This book will be perfect for the upcoming holiday season brunch gatherings! Can't wait to make them all.

Once I started noticing some changes in behavior of my 12-year old daughter, I decided to get educated a bit before a big frustration hits me. I downloaded the first chapter of some 15 books focusing on the teenage/adolescence issues (thanks to Kindle concept - one can download the first chapter for free to get an idea what the book is all about - the bonus is that you have the table of contents, so you can get the style and the structure of the book upfront. I also read all the reviews on Amazon and I hope my review will be helpful for someone.This particular book was the best of all - (1) well structured, (2) very informative, (3) with stories and lessons learned, (4) covering the whole array of sensitive/taboo topics sex, drugs, alcohol, etc., and (5) with the down-to-ground recommendations, which not only provide good guidance on what to do (engagement, communication, sincere conversations, corrective and peaceful punishment based on agreement/consequences, etc.), but also let you know what not to do (waking up teens very early in the morning, nagging, preaching, showing no interest in their lives and actually not spending some time with the kids, not forgetting about the challenges the teens face each day - puberty, changes in body shape, pimples.I have read the book during some two weeks (even though I could've done it in a few hours) while commuting to work and back. And that helped a lot, as it you conceive the concepts and ideas slowly, almost making them your own - this is what I would advise to anyone - read it a couple of chapters at a time.What can I say? This is the best book I've read on the topic. And when I see some helplessness in the eyes of the parents during the parent conferences, I advise to buy and read this book, and even one time I lent my Kindle to a friend to make him read the book. I'm originally from Ukraine where counseling in school has yet room for improvement and to help other parents I would just translate a designated chapter in Google translate online and even in that half-cooked version, parents were extremely happy to find some answers. Recently I moved to Austria and now my kids go to the Vienna International School. Excellent school, but the adolescence has nothing in common with good infrastructure. During the parents conferences there were some discussions about the alcohol, drugs, etc., and still I could see that no handouts or short presentations would give the full picture to the parents as all those issues like sex, alcohol, drugs, parties, anxiety, stress, puberty, etc., are very interrelated and one just cannot get the full picture based only on one topic. I realized it doesn't matter where you are, as a parent you are faced with the same problems especially given the globalization when iPhones, Internet and other fancy things are almost standard in every country; and the behavioral patterns are adopted from the movies and fashion movements.So I often recommend this book as the main eye-opening resource for the parents at any time, whether their kids are 8, 10, 12 or already 16, no matter which country they are in. As the author maintains the adolescence starts some time at puberty and ends who knows when (could be 20s and could be even 30s - it's my own observation). And our assignment is to learn the implications and consequences as parents, as there are more challenges and social and economic pressure in modern life then as we had some 25 yrs ago. And the trick is that while the variables grow (more exposure to TV, Internet, online communities, clubs, bank loans, easier payment systems - one click purchase, dealers of pills in school, more business trips for parents as the companies save costs on staff, etc.), the fixed things remain the same (24h day, some 4 hrs left during the working week for yourself and family, constant or even shrinking cash flow, etc.). And the parents need some help in solving the problems and addressing the challenges effectively, without creating the bottle necks in communication and further problems, exacerbating the situation - "I'm the boss and you have to obey". This concept can be conveyed in a modern way much more politely and with respect based on fair attitude and agreement. Otherwise, as my son puts it when justifying his negative response to his sister's request to get the garbage out: "I agreed with the request to clean, but after seeing the aspect of her face and hearing that intonation in her voice, I just couldn't help saying NO. And I bet you wouldn't either.":) Now all are aware of mutual respect and we try to maintain the spirit, especially when I quote some stories from the book (kids love to hear about someone else being wrong - they start brainstorming and providing recommendations, which helps themselves in the end).So, five stars at any time. If you look for a decent, structured and comprehensive insight into the adolescence issue, don't go further, this is it. Just read it from cover to cover (and certain chapters several times) and discuss it with your spouse. I ended up giving the book to my daughter when she started exaggerating and developed some anxiety (too big nose, bad skin, bad hair, etc.). I must say it helped a lot. She confessed that she read the book from cover to cover and understood what I was worrying about. She stopped doing some irrational things, though in some areas I had to give her some slack just to get bumps along the road and learn for herself (harmless things).I should also mention, that this book requires that you as a parent develop new skills and behavioral patters (discussions, get togethers outside of the house - very helpful as it puts you on equal footing outside your usual environment - i.e. no hard feeling who's the boss for instance in the restaurant or cafeteria rather than at home when kids feel defensive). It also requires some mental work to absorb the concepts, etc. If you have patience to read and get along with the the user manual of a new TV or any electronics gadget, you'll be just fine with this book, otherwise it might seem too complicated with some scientific explanations, which I liked BTW. So it helps if you read it chapter by chapter.Finally, I would summarize that if you want to be a responsible and loving parent, buy this book and learn it almost by heart - it would help you to parent with a proven concepts and guidelines that work. It gives you confidence because you know what can happen and actually what is being happening with your kid at a given moment. I.e. all kids get crazy at the "teen" age when you take them for a trip to another city, etc. because "it's much easier to watch TV at home, it's better to sleep longer, and then play with the friends outside, or just spend time alone with no parents". And knowing what happens before and after the trips, I always insist on joining the family and I try to arrange some entertainment along the way. I elucidate my kids what impressions they might have along the way - things to see, we discuss the route, I provide them some historical background, etc. And while the reaction is slow and ignorant at times, they always feel happy to be on the road and actually share their experiences with the friends with excitement. And because of the hormonal change, they tend to be sleepy all the time, so we take some extra pillows in the car to help them through, and I take it easy on the turns to keep them happy without throwing up - and they are thankful that we understand their challenges and are more responsive later on. This is one small example how I use some knowledge borrowed from the book; and in reality once you have the core knowledge, you just go ahead and adjust on the way as you deem necessary - improvise and take it easy. The main thing is that you get the information what is out there and how far even a lovely and peaceful child can go if left alone for him- or herself. And the ideas get absorbed even better when you hear other parents discussing their problems in school and then you'll know for sure that the book is a great source of information.Having handled the routine with the small kids in their first 2 years of life, most parents feel the relief and when the kids turn, say, 12 or 14, things start to change. That happened to my family. And I must say, having gained the confidence with the knowledge this book gave us, we decided to have another kid, so now we have 16, 10 year old kids and a 6 month baby. We know we need to put some efforts and invest in our kids, and we are fine with it. And we are well informed, prepared and quite excited to cruise through the challenges in life with no fear. Very helpful. The book covers a lot of different scenarios with teenagers. It helped me understand why my child washaving such erratic behavior. It gave me a different perspective, and helped me grasp how to go through this difficult time with my child.I hope that it helps with our relationship. Interesting information! I am a middle school principal. I found this book fascinating. I have purchased it for my teachers. In conversations with the adolescents I work with, I have used this information to help students understand themselves and to explain why certain consequences have been put into place. My preacher/counselor husband even picked it up and found that it explained a lot about how his counselees end up with the problems they have as adults. Read it!

Although this book poses a question that will go down through the ages unanswered, it does give wonderful, insightful, developmental and psychological explanations for much of what goes on in the teen brain for parents saddled with the hair-raising job of living with one. It is, HANDS-DOWN, the best book I ever read on understanding your adolescent. No other book came close to being as informative as this one. If you buy it, I don't think you'll ever regret it. Out of compassion, you'll probably end up giving a copy to every parent of teens you meet.

As a counselor focused on a developmental perspective and one who works with many adolescents and their families I found this book to be informative and easy to read. I spend a great deal of time reading and preparing for parenting classes and seminars. I feel very strongly that a clear understanding of brain development is essential to clarifying one's understanding of adolescent behaviors. Dr. Walsh provides a great deal of good information from many perspectives; focusing on a theme of providing your adolescent with the wings to fly while making certain they have secure roots as he encourages parents to parent with love while meeting the adolescent's need for connection and guidance. I will most definitely use his very helpful discussion on teens "Falling in Love" vs the later developmental experience of "Standing in Love" as managing emotions and romantic relationship issues are a high priority at this stage of development. Dr. Walsh explains things for the purposes of reaching a broad audience while remaining true to the facts evidenced in the most recent research. I find this book to be a wonderful compliment to Daniel Siegel's works: "Parenting from the Inside Out" and "The Developing Mind". I highly recommend this book to my fellow youth and family counselors and to parents of teens looking for valuable guidance in parenting.

I teach and do story times in a dinosaur museum and it is amazing how common it is for young children to be afraid to see "real dinosaurs" or even the concept of skeletons. This is a great book for this and we have used it to calm feels in our preschool age classes.

We bought two of the Franklin books for our grandson's 3rd birthday. Our son and daughter-in-law purchased a stuffed Franklin toy to go with them. Our grandson loves hearing the stories!

My 6 and 4 year old boys both enjoyed this book. Franklin goes on a class trip to a museum and his friend tells him about the dinosaur. Franklin thinks there's a real dinosaur at the museum and is suddenly afraid to go on the trip. He sees other fun exhibits and forgets about the dinosaur until he is face to face with dinosaur bones! What a relief it's not real! My kids really liked this book and now want to go to a museum. All of the Franklin books are great for young kids and have enjoyable characters.

Franklin is every young child's friend. They can instantly connect with the young turtle's sense of adventure and enjoy watching him work through familiar problems and solve them in his own way. All of them have been authored by Paulette Bourgeois and illustrated by Brenda Clark. They obviously made a wonderful team, since they have sold over 60 millions copies in over 30 languages. The stories are engaging and the pictures delightful. I love these books!!!

This entire Franklin series is fun. My kid had lots of fun hearing all the lovely stories from me. Also, each story teaches nice things. Everything in these books is just what I would want in a story book for my kid. Just the right amount of text, matched with lovely pictures, and a meaningful theme.

This is SO GOOD that you can see how the books are so good and cool it is the best book

It is very disappointing that the author does not allow Text to Speech on the Kindle ebook. That is the sole reason my student is using a Kindle....to have books read to him so he can enjoy the literature. This is a shame.

About the Author

Brodie s first recognition as a photographer came when in 2008, unbeknownst to him, his work was submitted to and then received the Baum Award for An Emerging American Photographer; this lead to a growing awareness of his work. Unfazed by this initial success and having never fully identified as a photographer Brodie chose to remain untethered to the expectations of the art market. Very interesting book. Must say I ordered it on a whim and am not disappointed. Wish it was a little longer, but the photos are all great. Very youthful, but with a certain oldness to them. It's almost like looking at a book from the heyday of railroad jumping (like the 40s or 50s). Overall the book is beautifully produced and the photos are wonderful. You can tell the photographer is self taught and not afraid of trying different styles out.Laid out one photo per page, with one blank (white) facing page so you are able to really focus each photo as a singular piece of art.

Mike Brodie's discovery and overnight success in the art world reminds me of how Vivian Maier shot to fame. Unlike her, however, Mike Brodie is still very much alive. This book is a revelation, albeit a rather brief one. The images are raw and immediate, with a deep compassion for their subjects and a natural feel for composition. The fact that Brodie had no formal training in photography makes them all the more remarkable. I just wish there were many more that could have been included in this thin volume. It's also a great pity that Mr. Brodie has hung up his camera with no plans to continue photographing. But I'm grateful that we have these, at least. And who knows? He's still young. Someday he might return to the craft. In any event, this book belongs on the shelf of anyone who loves the art of photography.

The photographs are stunning, but for the price it would have been nice to have some context for the project. How did the photographer start this train jumping trip? How did he come to befriend this group? What did they think about someone photographing them? What did the photographer learn about these kids, about himself, along the way? Some sort of text in the book would have been great.

These photos of the traveler kids have an amazing, casual, relaxed intimacy to them because Mike was one of them, a traveler kid himself, who later stumbled into taking photos. (As a photographer myself, I like seeing what he's captured, and I'd love to see the outtakes.)My 23 year old daughter has been a traveler kid for 5 years, riding freight trains, hitchhiking, walking, driving, taking buses, getting escorted out of towns. She's been to every one of the lower 48 states. She doesn't know Mike Brodie, but the life he lived and shot is just what she is doing. So, these shots are very poignant for me. If you like seeing people enjoying a different kind of freedom than most of us are brave enough to go after, you'll like this book. It's a fresh perspective and a perfect example of the idiom: freedom ain't free.

Documentary photography can't never get out of the ethical issues, but this is a very rare exception. The beauty about this book is that the photographer captured the magical moments without any hypocrisy, hipsterism, snobbism nor cynicism. This book is simple, real and intimate. Juvenile, fearless and idealistic life is here. Full of truly eternal moments which are almost unreal. I had a feeling that I was sucked into a fairy tale instead of looking at a reflection of the real world.A masterpiece.

I believe this is one of those books that gathers steam and importance over time. An important document pieced together with a true artistic eye. I expect there will be more to come from this talented photographer/documentarian.

My 2 year old LOVES this entire series of Nat. Geo Readers... I have purchased about 25 different titles, "pre-readers" as well as Level 1 & 2 readers. She loves them all & will ask for certain ones. The "pre-readers" level books are extremely simple & great because she memorizes the words & can "read" it herself. We love the more advanced ones too, because there is more information to talk about. I have learned quite a few facts, myself!) What a great series. The price is reasonable & pictures are great. These are really getting her interested in nature, animals & science... I will continue to buy these as they are released, for our collection!

I read this book with my 7 year old, and he really enjoyed it. It was very informative without causing an "information overload." National Geographic does a good job with providing this information in an age appropriate manner through easy to understand language, and also includes photos pertaining to the topics being discussed on that particular page. I recommend reading this book with your child or student. That way, you can ask and answer questions together, and spark up a conversation about what your child has learned.

My almost 3-year old son loves these books. I love that they are cheap, they have great pictures, and are full of facts that he has learned. He is a sponge, and soaks up every animal fact he can find. It's pretty amazing when your toddler informs his daycare teacher that "sharks don't have bones, they have cartilage!" We are buying all of the Pre-Reader, Level 1, and Level 2 books we can find. (Word to the wise: if your kid isn't reading yet, the Level 3's of this series are a bit much to read to a toddler. Still great photos and facts, but a bit long for Mommy to read for a before-bed-book.)

Wonderful nonfiction book about sharks. Full on fun facts about sharks. My son enjoyed the read, and so did I. It is interspersed with jokes and colorful pictures and this makes the book more enjoyable! Some of They could've left out the part about, being happy that a certain shark was extinct. My child was a bit offended by that. Other than that, the ending does encourage coexistence with this often feared and misunderstood sea creature.

I purchased this book for an 8 year old who was given sharks teeth found and collected off Manasota Key Florida. He loved being able to look up information on the type of teeth he now has in his possesion. He thought it was pretty cool!This book gives all sorts of explanations and easy to understand information about sharks body's and teeth. Easy to understand pictures with explanations. I scored giving this book as a gift.
