A really wonderful little memoir. It's probably helpful for the reader to have some familiarity with the punk rock, NYHC, and heavy metal subcultures, but the book is in any event a very relatable account of an average paisan's literal collision with the cult of fame and how the ungovernable chaos of social media amplified, accelerated, and distorted it. Danny strikes one as a pretty normal and stand-up guy who didn't set out that evening to become infamous, but one short scuffle and the mountain of inflammatory commentary surrounding it—virtually always offered by people who weren't present during the event itself—transformed a minor dispute into a life-altering celebrity event that required a book to properly explain. One of the strangest features of this affair was how rigidly and even ideologically some third parties, almost always Danzig fans, reacted to it, as if an observer had to pick a moral faction utterly dedicated to destroying its opposition, in one case going so far as to cast a Satanic curse on the author. It is entirely possible to be a die-hard Danzig fan (as I am and will remain until death, and perhaps beyond... ) while also taking issue with Danzig's behavior, and to see Danny as being within his rights to protect himself. Fortunately for the reader, Danny is also able to make this distinction, and he artfully, amusingly, and humbly injects this basic moral sense into a story that desperately needs it.

The book concerns the author's story of punching Danzig. He might also consider punching his editor -- or at least hiring a better one. This is one of the worst proofread books I've ever seen; almost literally every page has a misplaced and/or unnecessary apostrophe, with misspellings that spell check can't detect (such as "loose" when the intended word is clearly "lose") scattered throughout as well. Grammar is generally better -- but again, there are mistakes. While such problems usually signal a rather torturous read, Danny Marianino is actually not too bad of a writer -- and his deeply personal style and the story manage to overcome the errors. As noted in the description, this book concerns the fallout from punching Danzig -- which is a lot more complicated than one would ever imagine. Just for a reflexive action against a guy who was clearly in the wrong and attacked first without provocation, Marianino has been subject to nearly a decade's worth of taunts, threats, insults, and malicious rumors. The book is punctuated throughout with many of the profanity-laden missives, which usually revolve around "unwashed" phalluses, the author's weight, or hatred for Marianino's band, the North Side Kings. One can only conclude from the barrage of bile that Danzig has his share of idiots for fans; speaking of bad grammar, the majority of the author's critics look like they haven't even passed third grade English. By the same token, there are perhaps too many of the insults scattered throughout the storyline. Many aren't even worth the space, but some are funny -- such as a phony threat from the Church of Satan and conspiracy theories surrounding the incident that make Glenn Beck look rational. The post-punch anecdotes are also amusing, such as getting congratulated (and punched in jest) by Alice Cooper, not to mention kudos from James Hetfield, Kamal Ahmed of the Jerky Boys (who penned the foreword), Henry Rollins and even an unnamed ex-member of Danzig's band, among others. While one punch might seem like a bit of a stretch for a book-length project, Don't Ever Punch a Rockstar actually didn't lose my interest -- even when the author diverted from the punch to autobiographical details about his house burning down, a bar fight over Journey (really!), and the history of the North Side Kings. While I'd prefer cleaner copy, I would marginally recommend this as a fast, fun read. And if there's a second printing, I hope all the errors are corrected.

Item as expected!

Outside of the writings per the "confrontation" that occurred between the author and Glenn Danzig; this books looks into the outcomes of defending oneself with the consequences of doing so. The consequences being hate email, negative forum postings, to death threats. This book looks into bullying; and how it is not just on the schools grounds but is an internet problem as well. We read about it every day in the news. The author also speaks of life on the road in a stinky van while on tour, great friends and fans that stick together during tough times, and to always be positive even when life is kicking the s*** out of you. As Danny writes; he is no angel and made mistakes after the "Danzig" incident with his reactions via emails towards others but admitted he lost his cool. If you have never met the author; this is a great way to get to know the person that so many treated like s*** hiding behind their laptops with such vile and lewd comments. I hope this book will make people laugh, understand internet bullying, and that you can make a positive out of a negative when a person just wants to "be". BTW - I grew up listening to The Misfits and they are still one of my fav bands along with Samhain and Danzig. Just saw Danzig live last year.

Danny doesn't hold anything back here. It's funny that this story is still being mis-told and mis-understood, even out here in AZ where it all went down.

All around a funny book. Got slow a few times but definitely a good read. Some of the quotes make you really wonder about people.

I just read the book cover to cover - couldn't get enough of it! The picture inside getting the autograph was priceless, I literally could not stop laughing The positive message and front seat view into the life on the road was truly inspiring.

Loved everything about this book. Even had some pictures of a few people I knew from when I lived in Phoenix. Definitely recommending this to friends.
