I absolutely love Laura J Bryant's books but I was very disappointed with this one. First of all, it doesn't fit all adoption types. We adopted our son from foster care so his bio Mother did 'give him up' willingly.That leads me to my second problem with the book. Saying a bio Mother gave her child up is totally incorrect! That terminology isn't used any longet & for good reason. A birth Motherselflessly places her child, she does not 'give them up'. I felt the Author should have known this while writing a story about adoption.Thirdly, despite the title saying 'Us', there is no reference to a Father. I know the Mother was speaking but I would've like the Father to be a part of the conversation as well like in 'God gave us Family' by the same Author (which I give a 5â)Fourthly, I thought too many pages were spent talking about details of how the Mother felt before the son came to her (8 pages worth). I understand those feelings of jealousy & loneliness all too well but I thought it was unnecessary. I think the pages could've been better used explaining what adoption means. Or explaining that even though they aren't blood related, the love is just as strong.I'm sad to write this negative review but if I had read others first I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I'm hoping others will learn from my mistake or at least know what they're getting.
Cute book but very specific for adoptions where the birth mother gave the baby up willingly. I bought this to gift to a family that finally finalized an adoption for a fostered little boy. He was taken away from his birth mother, she didn't lovingly give him up. Wish it was geared for all types of adoptions.
Perfect book for families like myself who have adopted a child! Almost made me cry the first time I read it because it's so very true how long u wait to have kids. Seems like everyone else is having them and u have to just wait on God. I love the references to God throughout the book too! It's so true how He is in control and we must keep the faith and wait on His timing. Love it and my daughter seems to enjoy it too. (She's 2 1/2 and we adopted her from birth.)
Honestly, I was surprised by the good reviews on Amazon after reading this story. They use the term "gave up" referring to the birth family. They imply that the little fox never felt love until he was united with his adopted family.
Super cute book! My nephew just finalized the adoption of his little girl,so I bought this for them. The pictures are beautiful and the story is cute.However, it only talks about the mother's feelings. I would've liked for the father to have been part of the story as well.
Great book for a first (adopted) child. We had one biological child first and then adopted a baby. The book is beautiful and love the story, but the story says that they watched other people and how they wished for a child...it doesn’t really apply to us since we already had one biological child. But for a first child the book is great!!
We love Lisa Tawn Bergren's God Gave Us ... series. We have most of them for our own children. When a friend was adopting two children, we bought this book for her and her husband. It was part of our shower gift to them. I will continue to give it to adoptive friends, just like I give her other books (God Gave Us You and God Gave Us Two) for shower gifts to other new moms. We love the text and the illustrations!
This is ok enough. Adoptions vary so much person to person it's hard to find a book to cover it. In our case our son was an abandoned baby and the adoption took all of four days. This book focuses a lot- like MANY pages- on how long the mother waited. And for us that really wasn't true. So it's a little frustrating to read.
